Exploration of installations based on floating devices that can autonomously navigate in space, with the use of tracking systems, spatial mapping and 3D audio.
This project is an exploration of organic shaped helium-drones in an immersive spatial installation. A large helium flower is controlled by several other blob drones, that can be held by the users to navigate in this fantasy land of mystical creatures. The spectators move around with the blob creatures in the space and each zone is mapped to have a different experience.

The Helium Drone project is a research collaboration within the Immersive Arts Space (I.A) of ZHdK. Each drone behaves in its own way and interacts with the other drones to create a dynamic installation system. The drones uses a tracking system for location and navigation integrated with the I.A Space and a projection mapping system to wrap the drones in dynamic texture skins.
A lot of frameworks were developed by the I.A Space, including the projection mapping system, spatial audio and proppelor protocols. They were connected in a Max Patch to bring everything together for the installation.
